Carbon Fiber Hunting Tripods
Why carbon fiber for a hunting tripod
You carry a hunting tripod for miles to use it for minutes at a time. Then those minutes are everything: a buck bedded at 1,400 yards, a bull feeding in and out of timber, a sheep that only shows a horn tip. If the image shakes, you miss it.
Carbon fiber gets you a stiff, stable leg at a weight you'll actually carry. It also damps vibration better than aluminum and doesn't feel like holding an ice cube on a November morning. That's why every tripod we sell has carbon fiber legs.
But carbon alone doesn't make a tripod steady. Leg diameter, number of sections, stance and the head matter just as much. Here's how we built ours.
MTN SS Carbon Fiber Tripod — 20 oz
The MTN SS is our lightweight glassing and shooting tripod.
- 20 oz legs with multi-layer carbon fiber
- Two leg sections. Fewer sections keeps leg diameter larger the whole way down, which means less vibration and the ability to steady heavier spotting scopes
- Wider stance for more stability
- Short carbon center column so you can get low for prone shooting and low-angle glassing, with a few inches of adjustment
- 25 lb leg capacity (9.9 lb rated on the head in the kit)
Best for: sitting glassing, prone or sitting shooting support, and hunters who count every ounce. Price: $259.95 legs, or $349.95 as the MTN SS Tripod Kit with the Nano Pro head.
Swift TS Carbon Fiber Tripod — full height, still light
The Swift TS is for hunters who want one tripod that does more.
- Three-section carbon fiber legs
- 62.2 in. maximum height (64.7 in. with the Nano Pro head)
- 35 lb load capacity
- Glass sitting or standing, run binos or a full-size spotter, support a rifle, or set up a camera
- Hang weight underneath in wind
Best for: standing glassing, steep sidehills, shooting off sticks-height, and hunters who want one system for hunting, scouting and filming. Price: $329.95 legs, or $419.95 as the Swift TS Tripod Kit.
Which carbon fiber tripod should you get?
- Mostly glass sitting and pack weight is the priority? MTN SS.
- Need standing height, glass across steep country, or want a steadier rifle rest? Swift TS.
- Shooting off a tripod? Both work. The SS gets you low for prone and sitting; the Swift TS gets you tall enough for kneeling and standing shots.
Carbon fiber shooting tripod use
A tripod is one of the steadiest field rests you can carry. Mount your rifle to an Arca-Swiss compatible head or clamp with our Arca-Swiss Quick Release Plate, and you can go from glassing to a supported shot without hunting for a rock. Practice it before season — tripod shooting rewards reps.
The head matters too
Legs give you a stable base; the head is where you feel it. Both kits come with the Nano Pro Fluid Head: 8.2 oz, with smooth fluid-damped tilt so you can creep across a hillside behind a spotting scope without jerking the view. Bought separately it's $119.95.
Need to adapt thread sizes? Our Tripod Thread Adapter converts between 1/4" and 3/8".
What to look for in any carbon fiber hunting tripod
- Leg diameter and section count — fewer, bigger sections are usually steadier.
- Height you actually need — measure how you glass, not the spec sheet.
- Load capacity with margin — a spotter plus a digiscoping setup adds up.
- Center column — short or none for stability; long columns add shake.
- System weight — legs plus head plus plate, not legs alone.
